The health dangers of Vinyl Chloride are not limited to care cancers like angiosarcoma. This versatile but deadly chemical has been linked to scores of health problems over the years. Among the most common conditions caused by Vinyl Chloride are:

  • Acroosteolysis: A condition in which the bones (especially in the fingers) deteriorate, causing great pain and reducing function.
  • Angiosarcoma of the liver: An extremely rare type of cancer that causes a cancerous tumor in the blood vessels of the liver. The connection between angiosarcoma of the liver and vinyl chloride exposure is well established.
  • Brain cancer: A serious disease in which tumors form within the brain. Vinyl chloride exposure and ionizing radiation are the only known causes of brain cancer.
  • Leukemia: Cancer of the blood, bone marrow, and lymph tissues.
  • Liver disease: Damage to the cells of the liver. More advanced cases require transplant or can result in death.
  • Raynaud's syndrome: A condition in which restricts blood to the extremities and the fingers and toes. The reduced circulation causes pain, numbness, and impaired function, especially in colder temperatures.
  • Scleroderma: A condition that thickens and hardens the skin, which most frequently occurs on the hands.

Because Vinyl Chloride was used in so many products over the decades it is difficult to establish how many people could suffer from a related disease. Even though Vinyl Chloride is strictly regulated by numerous government agencies, it still poses a major health threat.
