Angiosarcoma Types
FREE Case Review
Angiosarcoma is a particularly insidious cancer because it can attack the blood vessels of almost any tissue in the body at any time. The danger of angiosarcoma is that any tissue with blood vessels may fall prey to its deadly embrace, sometimes without symptoms or waring. Angiosarcomas fall into one of two general categories:
- Hemangiosarcomas: these types of tumors start in the blood vessels of any soft tissues such as the heart, liver, lungs, skin, anywhere. Unless obvious (such as skin tumors) this type of cancer usually goes undetected until it is too advanced for treatment.
- Lymphangiosarcomas: this type of angiosarcoma is devastating because not only is it virtually undetectable, it attacks the immune system at its core, which not only reduces the ability of the body to fight off the cancer but also spreads (mestatizes) rapidly to other internal systems.
The tragedy of angiosarcoma is not only is that it can attack any system in the body, but it does so most often without symptom. The cancer then has time to spread and grow, and once symptoms appear treatment is usually ineffective.
