Surgery for Angiosarcoma
FREE Case Review
Because angiosarcoma is such an aggressive cancer, surgery is often the only option for doctors to save a patient. Angiosarcoma can quickly overwhelm a healthy body because it quickly metastases, or spreads to other systems. If the cancer affects the skin, bone, or other soft tissue surgeons can sometimes cut around the infected area, reducing the chance of further spread.
If an internal organ develops angiosarcoma, removal of part of the tissue can sometimes stem tumor growth, but often the entire organ must be removed to save the patient. Should the cancer affect a vital organ such as the heart or lungs, doctors usually attempt to make the patient as comfortable as possible.
