Angiosarcoma is a type of cancer that affects the linings of blood vessels.

Where can angiosarcoma occur?
Angiosarcoma can occur virtually anywhere in the body: skin, fat, bones, organs, anywhere there are blood vessels.

What is Vinyl Chloride?
Vinyl Chloride is a chemical used in a wide variety of industrial purposes, but mostly for the manufacture of Polyvinyl Chloride or PVC plastic.

What is PVC plastic used for?
PVC is one of the most widely used synthetic materials in the world, and is fashioned into pipes, toys, packaging, insulation, car parts, medical supplies, and thousands of other products.

Why is vinyl chloride dangerous?
Vinyl chloride is dangerous because when it is inhaled it can cause angiosarcoma of the liver, in addition to many other deadly conditions.

What else can cause angiosarcoma?
Radiation, chemicals such as arsenic and Thorotrast, and environmental contaminants have been linked to angiosarcoma.

What do doctors use to treat angiosarcoma?
Doctors usually focus on treating angiosarcoma with chemotherapy drugs, radiation, and surgery, but catching the disease early is critical for proper treatment.

Who gets angiosarcoma?
Most people who suffer from angiosarcoma work in the plastics industry, but workers who use certain pesticides or chemicals sometimes develop it as well. The largest group to develop angiosarcoma are women who have had radiation therapy during breast cancer treatment.

How many people get angiosarcoma?
Experts speculate that about 300 people each year develop some form of angiosarcoma.
